"Joslyn Rechter demonstrates once again that she is vocally and dramatically predestined for trouser roles. She displays the many facets of the crusader Ruggiero, who at first succumbs to Alcina's charms, but eventually returns to his true destiny. Her mezzo-soprano has not only inner warmth, especially at the end of the second act as she sings of the beauty of Alcina's island in the aria 'Verdi prati', but her voice also has extreme mobility in the coloratura aria 'Sta nell'Ircana' when Ruggiero sings of going to war against the armed forces."
